Compton Verney Art Gallery & Park

Compton Verney has worked with artist and designer Mark Hearld to re-imagine the British Folk Art Collection.

With a long-standing interest in the British countryside, British Folk Art and popular arts, Mark has recently worked on other curational projects, including with York Museums Trust.

William Bird Tree Services has been providing arboricultural services to Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park in February 2019.

The contract encompasses a range of arboricultural works ranging from initial planting, through to maintenance pruning, and ultimately felling and stump-grinding, to the parks tree stock. All works are carried out in accordance with BS3998:2010.

Resources currently deployed on the contract include:

• Six Arb gangs
• One Stumpgrinding gang
• Two Surveyors
• Five 7.5t and two 3.5t Arb trucks
• One John Deere four-wheel-drive tractor, with Botex timber trailer and crane
• One Vermeer SC60TX and one Rayco RG35 stumpgrinder
• Eight wood chippers

In February 2019 we were asked to undertake up to 12,00 Tree Hazard Assessments. Having successfully delivered these surveys, the park asked us to provide the services for the safe removal of the nominated trees, and leave the site clean of all waste as this heritage site is in constant use by the public.

The work was carried out over a 1 week period, working long hours and often into the night. All trees were removed down to the stumps where we employed the use of our heavy duty stump grinders, and all trees and waste were cleaned ready for recycling.
